ABOUT
Rachel Baseme was born in one of the major cities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Her peaceful childhood and rich international experiences from an early age equipped her with an open mind. She had the privilege of living in various countries across Africa, Europe, and America, which allowed her to feel free to become whoever she wanted to be—a dreamer.
Rachel's activism journey began with supporting and defending her classmates from various school issues, an experience that quickly became a core component of her Ikigai—her life's purpose.
WORK
Journey to Querencia is a collection of artwork that captures the emotional journey of a multi-hats, young Black woman and self-taught artist. The project began by taking the artist back to times in her life when struggles and trials were at their peak, where the light at the end of the tunnel was the realization of self-awareness.
The images that inspired the artist emerged from her meditations on the balance that life often requires when the darkness of the outside world tries to intrude upon the peace within the soul.
This journey is not just for her but for everyone vulnerable enough to feel it or made vulnerable by someone else’s actions. Journey to Querencia is about all of us.
